SAVING DOCUMENTS TO THE STUDENT SERVER Logging onto a particular computer is a separate procedure from logging on your HOME FOLDER on the student server.
Begin typing your document but do not wait until you are finished completely to save! You should SAVE EARLY and OFTEN because you never know when a power failure or computer malfunction may happen.
While your document is still open, go to the top of the Word menu and click on File
Drag down to 'Save As.'
Name your document at the bottom. I would suggest a naming convention if students are to put the document in a teacher's public drop box electronically (for example: Jane Jones' document in Mr. Smith's 6th Period class = Africa Report 6Smith JonesJ).
At the side menu on the left side, click on 'My Computer.'
Choose your HOME FOLDER from the menu in the middle of the window.
Click 'Save.'
If you want to check and make sure it is there before you leave, close out your document and close out of Microsoft Word.
Click on the RMS Communicator icon on the desktop, find the folder with your name on it and open it. Your document should be there if you saved it correctly.
Your home folder can be accessed on any computer in the Richview building, but cannot be accessed outside of the building.
BE SURE TO LOG OFF the computer before you leave class!
ATTACHING / SENDING DOCUMENTS THROUGH EMAIL
Be sure your document is saved--it should be saved on the student server, NOT on the computer.
Close the document.
Get on the Internet and log onto your CMCSS email account (link on library's home page) with your user name and password. Remember the User Name is in the following format: firstname.lastnamePPP@students.cmcss.net and Password is FLSSSS format. PPP stands for the last three digits of your PowerSchool ID number. FL stands for First Initial Last Initial and SSSS stands for the last 4 digits of your PowerSchool State PIN.
Start a new email. In the TO field, type your full cmcss email account name (or the email account you wish to send the document to). In the SUBJECT field, type whatever it is (example: Africa Report).
Click on the 'Attachments' icon or button.
Click 'browse' and find the location of your saved document (student server location); double-click to choose it.
Click 'Attach.'
Click 'Send.'
Wait a few minutes to see if your message is delivered to yourself with an attachment. If so, log off your email account.
